Yumn, whose trade name is HQ Power, was incorporated in Rwanda as a company limited by shares in 2012. The principal activities of the company are power generation, transmission, and distribution. Specifically, the company is the developer of the 80 MW peat fired power plant in South Akanyaru, Gisagara District, under a Public Private Partnership.

Job Summary:

The Chief Accountant is responsible for the efficient accounting and financial administration of Yumn ltd and associated companies. The Chief Accountant is expected to oversee the day-to-day financial administration of these companies to ensure smooth running and compliance with internal policies and external requirements. A key responsibility is the management of Accounting, Tax and fiscal Compliance, Audits, Payroll, Sage X3 system, Reconciliations, providing inclusive reporting that shapes and influences decision-making.

The incumbent will work closely with the CFO, a Finance team as well as the Project site teams.

Reporting to the CFO, the Employee overall respond abilities are, but not limited to the following:

  • General ledger management: Implement appropriate month end closure and General Ledger management processes, procedures, and practices.
  • Account reconciliation and analysis: prepaid Expenses, Deposits, Accrued Expenses, investments, capital leases, inter-company balances, etc,
  • Finance Policy: Support the CFO in updating, the relevant Finance and Yumn policy documents.
  • Provide support to FC and BE/AREF finance team as required.
  • Inventory – Manage Inventory system, compliance and ensure inventory is accurately accounted.
  • Payroll management including compliance to statutory obligations and ensure tax compliance and applicable laws.
  • Sage System: Custodian of the Sage X3 accounting system, manage issues from the team and get it resolves with the system provider.
  • Journal Entries including maintenance of recurring journal entries and allocations.
  • Prepare the compile information for the Company’s monthly, quarterly and/or annual management Accounts and tax returns.
  • Banking: Bank account management with focus on supplier payments and compliance with the relevant executed Agreements.
  • Manage AP/AR, cost accounting and revenue recognition.
  • External audit: Facilitate and oversee all external statutory audits including closure of management letter points Prepare and publish timely periodic (monthly, quarterly, annual) Management accounts and full IFRS compliant financial statements.
  • Tax compliance: Ensure compliance with the applicable tax laws by all entities including appropriate tax accounting.
  • Enforce rigorous document and contract management.
  • Support the company’s BPA and financial modelling.
  • Enforce internal control, risk management and compliance to company policies and procedures.
  • Coach and mentor, a dynamic team of 5 or more staff, including internal and external capacity building.
  • Manage and comply with local and state government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Treasury management, bank relations, and all other reconciliations
  • Fixed assets management: Review and ensure up to date Fixed Asset Registers are maintained for all entities.
  • Any other duty assigned by the CFO.

Education and experience:

  • University Degree in Accounting.
  • Qualified member of a recognized accountancy body or holder of an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of five years plus post qualification relevant experience. Audit background preferred with commercial/industry experience in operating businesses.
  • Local Rwanda tax knowledge is a pre-exquisite.
  • Advanced numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel and other Microsoft Office Software capabilities is required.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is essential.
